A day at BodyPower Expo 2014

A day at BodyPower Expo 2014 with Skinny Muscles.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s marketed as “the most awe-inspiring and motivational fitness weekend of the year” and if you haven’t heard about BodyPower Expo yet, then you really need to go out more often. It’s the only event in the UK (that I am aware of) where you can meet just about everyone from the fitness industry.

[pull_quote_center]Fitness models and bodybuilders, TV presenters and sports personalities – they are all there.[/pull_quote_center]

BodyPower Expo is not just a place where you can go and buy the latest protein powders and gym gear. It’s much more than that and here are the highlights of my day – “in no particular order” as they say on the talent shows:

I knew that the majority of the famous fitness models would be at this year’s expo but I didn’t expect to be rubbing shoulders (quite literally) with the likes of Steve Cook and Shaun Stafford within a couple of minutes of my arrival at the NEC. Of course they were there representing Optimum Nutrition. Needless to say that the ON stand was one of the busiest with masses of people queuing up to meet Steve and Shaun.

If you are into your fitness and want to meet your idols, then BodyPower is the place you need to be. The expo really is like a living Who’s Who of the fitness and bodybuilding world.

The highlight of this year’s expo for me was definitely the Cover Model Talk by Simon Howard and Kirk Miller. Simon is one of the top fitness photographers and Kirk is one of the top fitness models. They have 50 covers between them and they really know what they are talking about.

The Talk was in the form of a live photoshoot on the Fit Factor stage. Both Simon and Kirk didn’t hold back and shared lots of useful information and tips on posing, directing, dieting and just about everything that goes into creating that perfect cover picture.

There’s more information and pictures from the talk on Simon’s blog here.

There were plenty of other talks at The Academy and The Super Theatre, including the Olympic Lifting Special with Team GB’s weightlifter and clean and jerk record holder – Zoe Smith.

Of course they all included live Q&A sessions and members of the audience were encouraged to ask questions.

It goes without saying that the biggest sports nutrition brands and many other fitness-related companies had stands at the expo. They weren’t there just to sell us stuff – members of the public had the chance to try new products and walk away with goodie bags too.

There was something for everyone – from the latest protein powders and gym gear to custom made stage outfits for fitness models and bodybuilders.

If all of the above wasn’t enough, there was a variety of demonstrations and competitions held at the expo throughout the day.

I feel privileged that I was able to attend this year’s expo and to share my experience of the day with you. I also like to thank BodyPower’s Press Office for the Press Pass and for making me feel welcome at this year’s Expo. Look forward to seeing you there next year!
