[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ost supplement brands offer their own protein flapjacks. They are meant to boost our energy levels, top up our protein intake and keep us going between meals. These bars have become the ultimate protein snack. Let’s see if they are really worth it.
One of the perks of being a fitness blogger is that every now and then companies send you product samples to review. My latest delivery was from SportsDirect.com who sent me a small packet of their protein flapjacks by Lonsdale Supplements.
It is important to stress that this review is not influenced by the fact that these protein flapjacks were sent to me for free.
Both products are available to buy from SportsDirect’s website. The Lonsdale Flapjack is sold individually for £0.99 or in box of 20 for £18.99. The Pro Bar 30 (chocolate fudge flavour) retails at £1.50 for a single bar. A box of 20 bars for less than £20.00 is good value for money, compared to a box of 12 bars from one of the leading brands for £23.99.
Please note that these prices are current at the date of publication.
I was sent the Pro Bar 30 chocolate fudge flavour and the Lonsdale Flapjack original with chocolate flavoured coating. I must admit that I didn’t look forward to tasting either of them. In my experience, chocolate flavoured protein can be really bitter and I am not a fan. In fact it took me a couple of days before I tried them.
I was, however, pleasantly surprised by the taste of both products. They both taste sweet and very palatable. The texture is soft, compared to normal flapjacks and they are very filling.
It would be unfair to comment on any long-term results as I didn’t have enough of the product to last for more than a couple of days. Both products, however, are packed full of protein (30g for the Pro Bar 30 and 17.5g for the Lonsdale Flapjack).
They have enough calories and nutrients to keep you going between meals or after a workout.
PROTEIN FLAPJACKS BY LONSDALE SUPPLEMENTS – MY VERDICT
Regardless of the fact that these samples were free, I really like both flavours and I am happy to recommend them to you. I like the taste and I like the fact that they are really filling. If I was doing 9-5 at an office, these would be ideal snacks to get me through the day.
A word of advice: If they feel a bit soft on delivery – just stick them in the fridge for a couple of hours so they can firm up before you consume your protein flapjacks.
[quote_box_center]And finally; remember that such products are supplements, not substitutes for eating properly and adequately. It’s not a good idea to grab a protein flapjack because it’s easy and convenient. You should plan your use of them, just as you do your regular diet.[/quote_box_center]
