Fitness model interview: Daniel Hammaecher

Daniel Hammaecher is the second French fitness model to be featured on Skinny Muscles. He is an international Men’s Physique competitor who knows how to wow the audience and the judges. Dan is also the proud owner of Athletic BootCamp – a concept that gives you the chance to live, eat and train with him.

Would you introduce yourself, please?

My name is Daniel Hammaecher but you can call me Dan. I live in Strasbourg, France and I am a personal trainer, fitness model and competitor.

I am 30 years old, my height is 1.88m and my weight is 95kg off season and 90kg on stage.

When did you start your body transformation?

I first started going to the gym when I was 18 years old. I was very skinny for a tall guy and I was interested in what the other guys were doing to get in shape. I wanted to find out about their workouts and diets in order to achieve the same results.

I was working on optimising my training and nutrition in order to build up my body – one step at the time.

What keeps you motivated?

I always set new goals and push myself to going further and achieving more. The satisfaction from hitting my targets and achieving my goals is my greatest motivation.

I also have my idols who I look up to when setting my goals. I try to follow the examples that David Kimmerle and Rob Richies set.

How many days per week do you workout and what is your normal weekly workout schedule?

I workout 5 days a week and leave the weekend to rest. My current workout schedule is something like this:

  • Day 1: quads, calves, abs
  • Day 2: chest, biceps, traps
  • Day 3: shoulders, triceps, abs
  • Day 4: hamstrings, back, calves
  • Day 5: legs, biceps, abs

I am going to change this schedule and focus on my weak points when preparing for the next season.

What is your favourite muscle group and your favourite exercise for it?

I like to train my chest, shoulders and triceps because I find it easy to get results. I train the rest of my muscles harder in order to get the results I am after.

For my chest, I do bench press, dips with heavy weights and I do approximately four different exercises to hit all muscles.

For my triceps, I do super set pull ups. Changing grip is by far my favourite method to make them shredded 🙂

What’s your diet like?

I eat clean all year round. It is my choice of lifestyle and I like it. I do reward myself with a cheat meal in the weekend but the rest of the week, my diet is clean.

I calculate my nutrition needs and divide them by the number of meals for the day. That way I know exactly what I need to eat to get my carbs, protein and (good) fats.

I get my carbs from rice, pasta, oats and sweet potatoes. My main protein sources are whey protein, chicken, turkey, eggs, salmon, buffalo meat and tuna. I get my (good) fats from mixed nuts, fish oil and peanut butter.

In terms of supplements, I take BCAA, omega 3, protein powder, special amino acids blend.

What is your advice to anyone who wants to gain weight and build muscles?

Try to optimise your results by giving it 100%. Put 100% effort in everything you do in order to get the results you want.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Research different exercises and diets, try them out and see which ones work best for you. You get more results when you are precise, so try and be as specific as you can when choosing workout plans and diets.

Remember to eat clean and train hard.

What are your ambitions?

I am working towards becoming a well known fitness model. A personal goal of mine is to win my pro card so that I can enter pro competitions.

I would like to find a sponsor to help me promote myself and my company.

I also like to inspire and motivate people. I like to help others reach their goals and seeing their results makes me happy. That’s the main reason why I started my company – Athletic BootCamp. It’s a concept that I’ve developed and which allows me to teach sports nutrition combined with training sessions.

The Athletic BootCamp offers five days of gym training, theoretic anabolism and lessons on diet and nutrition. The bootcamp is complete with “healthy cooking” lessons to teach you how to prepare your meals at home.

Participants live on site and I teach them everything they need to know in order to achieve the results they want. At the end of their stay, they leave with all the knowledge they need to work on their goals and make them happen.
